Shortly after his inauguration in 2009, Rush Limbaugh famously said on the air he hoped President Obama would fail. This came at a time when our nation was reeling in the midst of the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression.
Overnight, millions of Americans lost their jobs, homes, and savings and Rush thought it was terribly amusing.
In rooting against the president, Limbaugh was pulling for the economic collapse of America. Now, three years later, with the economy surging along with Obama's poll numbers, we see how insignificant Limbaugh really is, still holed up in his palatial Palm Beach compound cheering against middle class Americans.
General Motors posted a record profit for 2011 after it was left for dead by the right this time three years ago. It's a testimony to the workers, unions and management of GM and the refusal of both President Bush and President Obama to give up on the auto giant. The pay-off for their faith is millions of jobs saved, directly at GM and throughout the company's supply chain (I leased a couple of GMC vehicles to help the process along...great vehicles, BTW).
Mitt Romney and other conservative naysayers who wanted to see the American auto industry collapse are now scrambling to politicize this triumph by calling it "crony capitalism," as if the bet Obama and the Democratic controlled congress laid in 2009 was a sure thing. Their hypocrisy is laughable and it could well cost Romney a devastating primary defeat in his home state of Michigan, where middle class auto workers have better memories than Mitt does.
Osama bin Laden is dead and GM is alive. Long live GM!
Not so long ago, if you were against the president, you were with the terrorists. Using that conservative logic, I pose this question to you: Are you for or against America?
So not only we sacrificed for the last decade with multiple lengthy deployments, loss of life, limb and countless injuries like TBI and PTSD (if you believe the statistics), Obama wants us to pay HIS bills! $12.9 billion straight out of the pockets of our military families while, wait a minute for this -- he called recently for RAISES for millions of federally unionized paper pushers.
This man has no soul, no morals and no clue what it is to serve his country. I'm really not sure how "progressives" with a brain can rationalize their vote for him.
If the government dumps that stock, what would happen to the stability of GM.
Also, as long as the government holds that stock, they own one of America's key industries. Is this not one part of the definition of fascism?
Also, by holding this stock and not having plans to sell it back to GM... that amount to free money GM, so sure they can afford to pay off the loan because the government just gave them all this money.
I am asking a couple simple questions: is it true that the government holds this much stock in GM. If they do hold this much stock, what is their exit strategy with this stock.
You lack of response insinuates that what I say above holds some truth.
Conservatives concerned about crony capitalism have gone way beyond the auto bailouts in 2009. Where are your wise words on the fiascos like Solyndra? Any comment on Caterpillar's move from Obama's home socialist state Illinois, down here to right-to-work state Georgia? Long live GM as a government entity, right, but I say long live Caterpillar, as an example of capitalistic success.
The Navy SEALS, the U.S. military, got Osama DESPITE this president, who is hated by the troops and especially by SpecOps forces who tell completely different stories if you'd bother to ask them. They abhor the way this president has called them out by individual unit, putting them and their families at risk! And don't forget, Obama officials are the ones who wanted to prosecute members of SEAL TEAMs for bloodying the nose of a terrorist detainee! NO...quit trying to divert attention to Rush Limbaugh, who you obviously have never listened to, and away from the worst president in the history of this country. I almost hope we have another four years of this guy, because afterwards Democrats probably won't win an election for about a century.
Here's another question: other news sources say that the fed govt still holds a huge block of stock in GM.
Is that true and if it is, then how long does the govt plan to keep it? In other words, will the govt be perpetually in the car business?
This is a great success for the US!
PS Boehner nor any other one individual can keep the US from paying off our massive debt.
GM did in 2010 - GM completed the repayment of its loans from the U.S. and Canadian governments by paying the outstanding balances of $4.7 billion and $1.1 billion respectively.
The debt will get reduced when we have cooperation and compromise. The trouble is, Boehner said in 2010 he "rejects the word compromise."
