BINGHAM, Maine (AP) — Wind farm developer First Wind says it’s looking seriously at a project that would include 50 to 60 power-generating turbines in a timber harvesting area in the Bingham area.

The Morning Sentinel of Waterville says turbines would be built on hills in Bingham and extend into Mayfield and Blanchard townships and Kingsbury Plantation in western Maine.

The project would include a benefits package, such as reduced property taxes, for towns where the project’s located.

Boston-based First Wind has four other operating wind projects in Maine, including Rollins in Penobscot County, Stetson I and II in Washington County, and Mars Hill in Aroostook County. Its Bull Hill project in Hancock County will begin operating soon.

The developer also owns a commercial wind project in Sheffield, Vt.
