Pete Borden and other MDJ bloggers and columnists insist the government is coming to take their guns. This is a National Rifle Association-pushed paranoid fantasy and it's not new.

Every time the conversation turns to sensible gun safety legislation, as it has in the wake to the Netwon massacre, the NRA trots out its minions to flog the phony "gun freedom" line.

NRA board member and aging rock star Ted Nugent is the latest surrogate to mouth off. He's threatening armed insurrection, although as we'll soon see, Nugent has no appetite for real combat.

"I'm part of a very great experiment in self-government," proclaimed the self-enamoured gun slinger at a recent convention, "where we the people determine our own pursuit of happiness and our own individual freedom and liberty not to be confused with the Barack Obama gang who believes in we the sheeple and actually is attempting to re-implement the tyranny of King George that we escaped from in 1776. And if you want another Concord Bridge, I got some buddies."

And I've got the bus that will transport Nugent and his pals to Concord Bridge if they really want to face off against our armed forces. Maybe Nugent can do a show before the shooting starts. I'd pay to see the concert and the gunplay.

The Nuge, speaking for the NRA's Wayne LaPierre, has made no secret of his organization's contempt for Brack Obama, blaming the president for every evil imaginable.

"But here is what is wrong with America today," Nugent goes on. "We have a president, and everybody better write this down, and memorize this. The president of the United States goes to the Vietnam Memorial Wall and pretends to honor 58,000 American heroes who died fighting communism and then he hires, appoints and associates with communists. He pretends to pay honor to men who died fighting communism, and then he hangs out with, hires and appoints communists. He is an evil dangerous man who hates America and hates freedom. And we need to fix this as soon as possible."

Ah, Vietnam is it? Let's see, Nugent is of an age that he would have been drafted and likely had his opportunity to play Rambo in Vietnam.

But alas, this tough guy pooped his pants and generally abstained from all personal hygiene for more than a month before showing up at his draft board, where he was promptly rejected for service. Nugent nevertheless has the temerity to refer to America's real fighting men as his "borthers in arms."

This is the same punk who said at the NRA's annual meeting that he would be "dead or in jail" if President Obama was reelected to a second term, earning him the attention of the Secret Service.

Nugent backed down, of course, and probably pooped his pants again when the Service knocked on his door.

@DA: It seems proof reading is a very difficult function for you when frothing at the mouth.

I love watching "Wing Nuts" losing control.

You continue to refer to a story which the originator has recanted on numerous instances. Seems to me that borders on telling a lie. You know that it cannot be documented and that it has been recanted. Your refusal to quit repeating it indicates that you have eben brainwashed by the liberal propsganda m machine to the point that you no longer care whether the story is true or not, as long as it appears to advance your cause.

For the record, whcih you can check yourself, acccording the Selective Service records, Nugent was given a 1S (high shcool student) classification in 1967. Upon graduation, he enrolled in college and was given a 2S (college student) classification. He was given a 1Y classification (physically or mentally unfit). When that classification was dropped in 1969, he was given a 4F classification. there is nothing in those records which would lend any credence to your story. Since Nugent suffers from hearing loss, that could have been the reason for his 4F classification.

At any rate, ti seems particularly ludicrous of you to continue to focus on something that happened over 40 years ago.

You call Nugent a pooping draft dodger. What kind of draft dodger do you call the 30 thousand who ran across the border to Canada in order to evade the draft, or deserted the military and ran to Canada to acouid prosecution?

Come to think of it, what kind of draft dodger were you? Were you one of the ones who lined the streets calling us names and throwing garbage and excrement at us when we came back? Were you one of those who joined Hanoi Jane Fonda in calling our servicemen names? Or did you join with Hanoi John Kerry, America's band-air Purple Heart traitor< when he pretended to throw his medals over the fence in protest?

For the record, what were you doing during the Vietnam conflict? Bet you don't answer that one.

Why is it that the gun crazies always seem to pick the craziest as their mouth piece? Ted Nugent, see what I mean.

Good luck.

Kamp for Kids. To bad the pooping draft dodger can't invite the kids from Sandy Hook.

He's yours. Be proud.

As I said, foley, yousa re basuing your judgement and remarks on something that he said, whcih he recanted, and whcih is not part of any record.

This, one the other hand is documentable. Match it, or shut up about the man and something that may or may not have happened over 40 years ago.

"Ted Nugent regularly hosts hunts for sick and terminally ill children with Hunt of a Lifetime, Hunt for a Cure, and via his own Kamp for Kids. Nugent has also founded the Freedom's Angels Foundation, which benefits American soldiers".

@DA: "Why gun nuts are deluded" as applied to Ted Nugent. The topic was completely covered. Kevin also used Pete Borden to emphasize his point. Are your feelings hurt that you were not included?

@Adams - You need to learn to read and, oh yeah, comprehend. Dude pooped his pants to avoid the draft. He was proud of it. He's one of yours and he's one of the NRA's leading spokesman.

Congratualtions.

Foley, you need to learn to write. You title an article "Why gun nuts are deluded", then you not only fail to address the title of the article, but you turn it into an attack on Ted Nugent. An attack based on remarks he made to a reporter who got too nosy with him. Remarks he has since recanted, about an incident which cannot be documented, concerning his draft deferment. So, since he does not share your left wing radical views, you choose to believe the worst case scenario.

Sorry, but if you had an credibility left, you just blew it with this hyped up attack piece.
