SMYRNA — A homeless woman from Snellville was arrested by Cobb police Sunday on suspicions of abandoning her infant for five days right before Christmas.

Keisha Bennett, 41, was charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly contributing to the deprivation of a minor. She was released Sunday on a $1,000 bond.

The warrant states from Dec. 20 until Christmas morning Bennett left her 3-year-old child, “when she knowingly and willfully fled a homeless shelter leaving the child in the care of staff.”

The homeless shelter was The Garden, just east of Interstate 285, which is operated by the nonprofit 7 Bridges To Recovery.

According to Cobb Police, Bennett admitted that she fled the shelter and had a handwritten note asking the staff to care for her child delivered by an unknown person to the shelter.

“Staff at the shelter received said note three days after (Bennett) fled, abandoning her child,” the warrant stated.
