“Our fullback made a nice block on the outside linebacker and it opened up a big hole for me and I just did what coach tells me to do and brought through the hole,” said Kasian about his opening score.
Kasian led the way in the first half for Walker running for four scores, recovering a fumble and intercepting two passes. The senior running back finished with 150 yards on eight carries in his two quarters of play.
“Evan is an explosive back,” said Walker coach John East. “He’s one of the best running backs in the state without question and certainly we’re going to go to him and work off of that.”
McClain McKinney, Bradley Moore and JT Wood also added rushing touchdowns for the Wolverines. Wood’s second-half 47 yard scamper added electricity to the atmosphere as he ran up the middle and around Warrior linebackers before beating the secondary in a foot-race to the goal line.
Wood also opened the second half by showing off his speed on a 68 yard kick-off return to the Warrior 12 yard line.
SACA was on the field for the first time this season after having to forfeit their first two games due to equipment issues.
“I can’t say enough about (SACA) and coach (Adrian) Chism,” East said. “It certainly has been tough, but they have 16 fine young men that showed up and they should be proud of their effort.”
The lack of game play was evident as the Warriors turned the ball over six times including a fumbled kickoff return, and committed six fouls for 27 yards.
However, coach Chism was proud that his guys played to the last whistle.
“My philosophy is not to quit,” said Chism. “Going forward us as coaches are going to really hammer down to make sure they understand the scheme of the game, but one thing we can’t coach is heart and that’s what my team has.”
Walker will defend their undefeated record September 21 when they host Mt. Zion-Carroll at Robertson Field.
