ATLANTA (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Georgia on a plane around 11:19 a.m. Tuesday.
The White House said in a brief statement that the vice president will attend an event for U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn at a private residence at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Nunn, a Democrat, has announced plans to run for Georgia's open U.S. Senate seat.
Biden is campaigning and raising money around the country for Democrats in the 2014 midterm elections. Many of his stops are in states, like Georgia, where President Barack Obama is unpopular among white voters.
Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss is retiring, and Democrats see Nunn as one of their best chances to pick up a GOP seat. But to win, she'll have to convert whites who supported Mitt Romney over Obama in 2012.
