“I have a big sweet tooth, especially chocolate,” Frey said. She channels her love for confections into homemade treats that include a variety of fudges, brownies, lemon rosemary shortbread and cookie mixes.
“I’ve been cooking since I was young. All my family cooked,” Frey said. “We didn’t have storebought treats. We always had homemade pies and cakes.” Frey grew up in North Carolina and cooked with her mother and great-grandmother.
She started her business two years ago. “For years, I made fudge at Christmas and gave it away. A lot of people wanted to buy it,” Frey said.
She always had a interest in selling at the Marietta Farmer’s Market. With the encouragement of her friend, Michelle Goodman, she shared a booth with her and sold her cookie mixes in a jar that the buyer takes home to bake.
The next Christmas, Frey began selling her fudge and brownies. “That’s how I got started, through friends and family,” she said.
Frey’s scrumptious fudge is one of the best. She sells different varieties such as walnut fudge, peanut butter fudge, dark chocolate cherry and white chocolate cranberry. “I made 400 boxes of fudges this past Christmas,” she said. “It’s just delicious.”
Her cookie mixes, made to order, are yummy too. “(The cookie mix) is great for teacher gifts,” she said.
Frey and her husband, Douglas, own the historic Trammell House. They moved to Marietta in 1994 and purchased the home in 1998. The house had been divided into three apartments, and the couple renovated it to its orignal style.
She named the cookie mixes for people who used to live in the Trammell House. For example, the chocolate chip mix is called Polly’s Choo-Choo Chippers for Polly, a railroad engineer.
“I just have these fun little names for these (mixes). It’s just a way to remember the people who lived here and honor the history of the house,” she said.
