Time to one-way Whitlock, Polk

DEAR EDITOR:

I have been reading with interest of the developing plans to improve Whitlock Avenue within the bond proposal for the redevelopment of Franklin Road.

As we all know, Whitlock is a persistent log-jam of traffic and as the economy improves and development picks up in West Cobb and Paulding County, this will only deteriorate to a rolling parking lot. The historic nature of Whitlock precludes widening it to improve the traffic flow, so there appears to be only one reasonable solution.

I would suggest that a study be done to examine the establishment of Whitlock and Polk as one-way streets and create a loop in order to improve the traffic flow in each direction.

I can already hear the outcry that this proposal will create but I ask the residents of the area to think about it and if the additional inconvenience this may cause may be outweighed by the improvement in traffic flow. This is something that should be seriously considered.

I think we can all get behind a reduction of traffic on Whitlock, but it will be tough to utilize Polk within that effort, as it passes directly by the middle school. With the reduced speed limit and inherent dangers to school children, I don't know how this could be feasible. All ideas are welcome.
