DEAR EDITOR: This is in response to the letter “Square suffers by comparison with Roswell” by Margaret Coleman in the Sept. 4 MDJ. Prior to moving into the city limits of Marietta, my husband and I lived in east Cobb for many years. During that time we shopped and dined in Roswell and enjoyed it, but for us something was missing. We and our east Cobb friends and neighbors did not come to Marietta Square.

When we moved into Marietta we began dining and shopping on Marietta Square and found what we were missing — a small-town feeling and true community spirit. Now we go to THE Square and see many of our friends and neighbors as we enjoy the various foods and atmospheres of many unique restaurants, browse shops and museums, attend theater shows and concerts and festivals and the Farmers’ Market.

I admit that there is room for improvement and new ideas with the focus to be on our hometown sense of community. Our goal should not be to become a clone of Roswell, where others have found exactly what they are looking for.
