Three Smyrna Police officers were recognized Thursday by The Governor’s Officer of Highway Safety and Mothers Against Drunk Driving during the 10th annual MADD Golden Shield Honors Banquet. The banquet recognizes officers across the state of Georgia for contributions to DUI enforcement.

Master Patrol Officer Stephens, who is assigned to the DUI Task Force, was awarded the red pin for 151 arrests. Officer Waldrop, who is also assigned to the task force, was awarded with the red pin for 164 DUI arrests. These officers were two of only 19 across the state to receive the red pin award for having more than 150 arrests. Officer Snively, assigned to uniform patrol, was one of 30 officers across the state awarded with the gold pin for 103 DUI arrests.

The Smyrna Police Department as a whole received the award of “Agency DUI Hero” for a total of 623 DUI arrests in 2013. Smyrna Police was the only agency in Cobb that had officers who received the red pin award.
