EDITOR’S NOTE: Below is a selection of the responses from readers of in reaction to recent MDJ stories.

Kennesaw state Rep. Charles Gregory would do away with permits for concealed weapons …

Ben Mihalski — The whole premise, as Charles states is for people to allow whatever on their own property! If they (a church or school) want to allow guns on their property then it’s their right. Please let’s not lose sight of property rights. I am very proud to know Charles. He has my support.

Tgeezy — Way to go Mr. Gregory! I hope more legislators will follow suit. All it takes is researching and looking at facts to prove that allowing more good people to carry guns cuts back dramatically on crime. Thanks, Mr. Gregory. You will always have my support now!!!

Be Careful — Oh, and by the way, maybe Kennesaw NEEDS more attention from the media. The “gun lovers’ paradise” has THE lowest crime rate of any city in Cobb and of any city of comparable size in the country. Criminals want situations where they KNOW the potential victim is incapable of protecting himself. They facts speak for themselves.

Protect freedom — You’re exactly right! When I lived in Kentucky before moving to Georgia, we all quoted “Kennesaw” as an example of gun possession working to lower crime. It is a “no-brainer.” A thug, rapist, or murderer is going to have no fear entering a place or home that is not allowed to protect themselves, but if they know everyone has a gun, then it will take a true psycho to even attempt it.

Rich Pellegrino — Junk science “facts” paid for by the NRA, a domestic terrorist organization.

VFP42 — Kennesaw recently got a bunch of apartments. Currently they are occupied by young sexy college students. Give those students 4 or 5 years to absolutely destroy these places and for “apartment dwellers” to move in. Then let’s see how Kennesaw’s crime rate is looking.

Be Careful — It’s simple. If you don’t believe in guns, don’t buy one. Those who say “no guns” are in fact saying that they want innocent people killed. They would rather have 20-30 kids killed in a school than to give someone at the school the ability to defend themselves. When will people understand, making something illegal doesn’t stop it. Murder is illegal. How’s that working?

John S — Do you really think banning guns will stop anything? It will make it worse.

SG68 — I am a longtime gun owner and a Georgia Weapons License holder. We do not need high capacity magazines for our weapons. There is no need for someone to have a 30 round magazine unless they are in a war zone (like downtown Chicago or Detroit). We need more in depth background checks for those purchasing weapons. There is no waiting period in Georgia, just a simple two page questionnaire and a quick phone call by the FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee) selling you the weapon. The background check should at least be as rigorous as that required to be issued a Georgia Weapons License. Of course, stricter gun laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns illegally, so don’t look for tighter restrictions to curb those incidents.

Axiom1jfm — A very good start!

Dustoff — What needs to be banned is the assault type weapons that have 20 or 30 round magazines, and they do not have to be automatic, any person with a little knowledge can make one fire full auto. I disagree with the elimination of the concealed permit and believe that every person who wishes to carry either open or concealed needs to be permitted, and further, unless they were ex-military or law enforcement the need to show proof of completing a firearms class.

Kathy M — I am for gun rights, but I do think we need to keep them out of the hands of people who have mental issues. I also think we need gun registration.

DramaticMedic — What good is gun registration going to do? How will that effectively stop any crime?

Aunt Jane — THANK YOU!!!! Wonder if we could run you for Senator? So glad we have a few Americans left! In an emergency I need to right to protect myself!
