Lee defends tax hike …
Upcoming election — Even if our ignorant residents in Cobb County are totally ignorant about what have been taking place in Cobb the past few years — at least this election — please be smart and don’t vote for the incumbent.
Boot Tim Lee — I’m doing my part to make sure Tim Lee only has one term as Chairman....Please folks, BOOT TIM LEE out of office on Election Day.
Mr T. — Newt, Lee, Hank, Johnny, Obama, Saxby and Brown all of the same turf.
NotSoPC — Cobb’s financial issues are basically the same as the Nation’s. It is a SPENDING problem not a REVENUE problem. The county has made some cuts, but those were the easy ones. There is still plenty of fat left in the budget.
Tim Allison — Wall Street Bankers are more important to “Spent Um High” Lee than Cobb home owners.
ol’ retired doc — The tax hike was needed so the Board of Commissioners could spend, spend and spend.
Council kicks map decision back to committee ...
A Taxpayer — Thank you, Jon Gillooly, for quoting Anthony Coleman verbatim and not trying to clean up his verbage: “I’m not going to be taking nothing on no Franklin Road.” “Rev. Moon, he done looked at the map...” “There’s no benefit to you to take nothing on Franklin Road. They transient.” No only is Coleman a bully, he can’t even speak English properly. What’s he doing on the City Council?
Hobnail Boot — “How would that benefit you?” At the risk of sounding like a broken record: Rev. Coleman, this redistricting process is NOT ABOUT YOU. It is about the citizens of Marietta. Please try to focus on someone besides yourself for once.
Neighbor to South — Maybe it is time to move to five council persons elected at-large.This idea of districts only restrcits those elected to be Provincial and Parochial rather that putting the needs of all of the City first.
an80sreaganite — Really? Is Coleman the best that Marietta can offer? He sounds like a common thug or maybe professional basketball player.... Ugh!
Shopgirl11 — At least Mr. Coleman can’t complain about being misquoted in the press...
West Cobb Resident — Is Coleman educated? His speech makes him sound like he’s a two-bit gangster.
Grand jury suggests higher pay for police officers ...
Lord Helmet — The commissioners are not accurate. There is a 10 million dollar surplus this year. Sadly, Cobb county has shown once again that they would rather spend money on capital development than invest in their employees. There are too many police? Really? By what standard? What Commssioner Lee meant is there are too many public saftey employees to politically do it. The public may not know if you raise police pay, you have to raise sheriff deputy pay and fire fighter pay. Its all politics... is any one surprised?
Bean Counter — I do think that if you don’t have the money, you can’t give raises, but the situation with CCPD is more complicated that just “spending more money on raises”. Despite no pay raises; Teachers, Firefighters, and other county workers are not leaving their jobs. CCPD Police Officers are leaving by the bus load because they CAN and DO get more money, better benefits, and less abuse elsewhere in the Law Enforcement profession. Also, a CCPD trainee is paid 1 and a half years salary ($60,000) plus health, pension, payroll tax, etc ($8,000???), and training costs ($20,000???). Total approx $88,000! This is before they can actually police on their own and fill a beat. The county requires a two year commitment from a new hire from their hire date, which equates to 6 months of an officer filling a beat. If an extra $2,000 heck, even $4,000 keeps those officers on the job, isn’t that cheaper than paying to train and prepare people to work elsewhere? I guarantee you that anyone that is not within 10 years of retirement is keeping their eyes open for something better.
Kennesaw Voter — Every person who has any ambition and personal drive is going to be “keeping their eyes open for something better”....so that arguement does not hold any water or as they say down here...THAT DOG DON’T HUNT!!....
