Every day this week, our home has received a negative ad for the Post 1 Cobb Commission seat, and all of them have been incorrect trash.

I have known Bill Byrne since 1972 and at that time he was a land planner and engineer on several projects that we were building. He was then, and still is, a good friend and a person I respect. As a business person and a community leader, he always did exactly what he told you he would do.

One of the smut sheets referred to the Bedminster Plant the county built. It blamed Byrne for forcing the plan on the taxpayers. This was not the truth. Cobb County was under pressure to do a better job of disposing of garbage, and there were few choices. We could burn the garbage, bury the garbage or make compost.

In the 1970s and ’80s, I was privileged to serve on the Board of Commissioners and we dealt with the same problems. We had a landfill at near capacity and something had to be done. I personally looked into burning the garbage with incineration. This proved way too expensive and would not pay for the cost. The board even looked into selling the electricity generated to Lockheed or Georgia Power to recover some of the cost.

The Bedminster Plant was a way to help the environment and dispose of some of the garbage. It was never designed to handle all of it.

Dumping garbage has never been free, and there has never been a good way to dispose of it, especially in our society where we throw everything away.

I am tired of the trash that has been sent in the mail this week by a desperate candidate. These old-fashioned slick sheets were all lies to attack the character of Bill Byrne.

The 11 voting members of my family would prefer to read something positive the candidate can do for this county.

We need a person who knows the job and knows the things Cobb County needs to once again encourage growth and prosperity. That person is Bill Byrne.

Butch Thompson

You don't know him

Plainly you don't know Butch Thompson. You must be a newcomer, or a shill for the other candidate.

Your insults about Butch are just not credible.

I think it is YOU that does not know him. I am NOT a newcomer unless you call living in Marietta for 54.5 years a newcomer, and I am definitely not a shrill for other candidate, I do not even know the guy, I only want to provide voters accurate information as to the motive of the letter from Mr. Thompson for supporting confrontational Byrne. Check the records and see how much work Thompson did when Byrne was chairman.

Sounds like a broke contractor that has been promised county work, oh wait Byrne wants to privatize and give work to contractors, he stated that when he was running for Chairman. Byrne mentioned Butch Thompson as one of the contractors that would be doing county work. Now I can understand why Butch supports Old Byrne. Butch is a disgruntled grumpy old man just like Byrne. Promises, promises, payback for political favors!
