DEAR EDITOR:

As always, a great MDJ Opinions section on Sunday. But this Sunday’s especially struck a chord with me.

I loved the article by Mike Edwards on working with Bill Kinney in the day of manual typewriters. And I loved the article by Judy Elliott on real book clubs instead of online virtual ones. As a fellow author and publisher, I know the value of being able to capture a story as you hear it, and how small groups can make a book’s impact even greater.

The editorial “Common Sense” (against) the zero-tolerance stance of Cobb County Schools, hit it on the head. I wonder how many times I was a “criminal” when picking up a child or grandchild at school with a pocketknife in my pocket. Hopefully our legislators will address this in the next session and bring common sense back into our schools. Hopefully these young men won’t be punished for their common sense and doing what they enjoy.

Columnist Nelson Price’s thanks and appreciation of his wife’s volunteerism, along with thousands of others, makes me proud that I also volunteer for causes bigger than me. My causes are veterans, military families and the USO.

Finally, I am in agreement with columnist Roger Hines and his stand about KSU biting the hand that feeds them. Since when did gay pride become the agenda of a public university?

Keep up the great job. I love reading the MDJ Editorial page.
