Prep Roundup: South Cobb pulls ahead to beat Wheeler

Avery Williams and Tyler Minkkinen each had RBI singles in the seventh inning to lift South Cobb to a 6-4 win Saturday at Wheeler.

With the game tied 4-all heading to the seventh, Deion Law and Alen Few singled to set up the rally. Williams singled to left to drive in Law, and Minkkinen brought home Few, with the game-winning runs.

Law, Few, Williams and Minkkinen each went 2-for-4 for the game.

Nate Golden pitched 2 2/3 innings for the victory. Williams got the last out of the game for the save.

Alan Peters led Wheeler with a pair of hits.

South Cobb (5-3) will travel to Kennesaw Mountain on Monday. Wheeler (2-4-1) will host Lakeside-DeKalb on Thursday.

Alpharetta 6, North Cobb 5 (10 inn.): After the Warriors drew a 5-all tie in the top of the sixth, the teams combined for four scoreless innings before the host Raiders emerged with a walk-off single.

North Cobb’s Trevor Devine reached in all five of his plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a double and getting hit by a pitch twice. He also scored two runs.

Patrick Smith added a two-run home run for North Cobb (4-4), which will host McEachern on Monday.

Dominion Christian 8, Augusta Prep 7: Andrew Giles’ RBI double brought Riley Howard home with the go-ahead run to help the Eagles win on the road.

Tate Cooney went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Luke Lewallen added a two-run home run for Dominion (4-0).


Walton 1, Brookwood 0 (PK):
Michel Fernandez saved a penalty kick in overtime for the Lady Raiders, and Maya Cherry put the shootout out of reach with a 4-2 margin.

Fernandez and Peyton Ryan combined for the shutout in goal. Fernandez made four first-half saves, one in overtime and then stopped the penalty kick. Ryan made three saves in the second half.

Walton (4-3-1) will travel to Woodstock on Wednesday.


Yi wins, Walton third at Classic: John Yi shot 68 to earn medalist honors at the Apple Mountain Classic at Apple Mountain Golf Club in Clarkesville.

As a team, the Raiders shot 290 and finished third, five shots behind Peachtree Ridge. Gainesville finished second.

Michael Sheehan shot 73, while Alex Battle and Conner Evison each shot 77.
