Kennesaw Mountain 5, Lowndes 0: The Lady Mustangs reached the state semifinals for the second straight year following the Class AAAAAA quarterfinal win at home.
Kennesaw Mountain (21-3) saw Samantha Armas take a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Nicole Croxton was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 2. Chika Okonkwo won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
The No. 2 doubles tandem of Samantha Maddin and Ivy Evatt claimed a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Marilyn Corn and Katie Manroe took part in a tough match at No. 1 doubles before securing a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 victory.
After losing 3-0 to Peachtree Ridge in last year’s semifinal, Kennesaw Mountain will face the Lady Lions again with an opportunity to reach the state finals for the first time in program history.
Whitefield Academy 4, Galloway 1: The Lady Wolfpack earned the first state playoff win in their history following a first-round win in the Class A private-school tournament.
Whitefield (8-5-2), the Area 7A runner-up, led 2-0 at halftime. Logan Pearce had two goals and an assist, while Gabby Boswell and Caitlin Hesse each scored one goal.
Emma Wright stopped four shots for Whitefield, which will travel to Area 6A champion Holy Innocents’ on Tuesday.
Walton 13, Woodstock 3: The Raiders sealed the No. 2 seed of Area 2AAAAAA with a win in their regular-season finale.
Walton (12-5, 6-2) clinged onto a 4-2 lead at halftime before dominating the final 40 minutes.
Kip Jones had four goals and an assist, while Ryan Jones had three goals and three assists. Michael Gernatt and Jack Whittaker each had two goals and and assist, Tim Winans had one goal and and assist and Dylan Boast had a goal. Defenseman William Holt had an assist.
Jake Hornberger made 11 saves for Walton, which will take a six-game winning streak into its first state playoff game, Wednesday against Peachtree Ridge at Raider Valley.
Milton 17, Harrison 8: The Hoyas fell in their final regular-season contest, a non-area matchup.
Luke Wittenberg with two goals and two assists, followed by two goals from Zach Zalar, a goal and an assist from Alex Mowry and scores from Zach Danneman, Brandon Galgon and Artie Lewis.
Harrison (8-8) will host John’s Creek in the first round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs Wednesday.
Hillgrove 19, McEachern 6: The Lady Hawks led 9-3 at the half and built on the lead in the second.
Tiana Clark led Hillgrove (12-5, 5-2 Area 1AAAAAA) with seven goals. Marilyn Pruitt recorded three goals and three assists, Andrea Struberg had three goals and an assist and Morgan Perone had two goals. Macy Murdock and Ella Collins had five and three saves, respectively.
Hillgrove will host Sprayberry in its regular-season finale today.
Kell 20, Riverwood 8: The Lady Longhorns led 15-4 at halftime and dominated from the start, en route to the Area 2A-AAAAA.
The victory marked the end of the regular season for Kell (13-5, 7-1) which earned the No. 2 seed from the area for the state playoffs.
Emily Swift had four goals, while Leslie Ferguson added three goals and one assist. Jessica Armstrong scored three times, Sarah Bialecki contributed two goals and three assists and Izzie Palermo posted two goals.
Haley Swift had a goal with six assists, while Sachi Griffiths and Clarissa Rutherford each had one goal and one assist. Three other players each had one goal.
Madison Gropp collected four saves for Kell, which will host Decatur in the first round of the state playoffs Wednesday.
