Prep Roundup: Kennesaw Mountain wins all-Cobb quarterfinal

The Kennesaw Mountain girls didn’t drop a set and beat North Cobb 5-0 on Wednesday in an all-Cobb matchup in the Class AAAAAA state quarterfinals.

Samantha Armas (6-1, 6-0), Nicole Croxton (6-2, 6-0), and Abby Seabaugh (6-1, 6-1) won in singles action, while Chika Okonkwo and Ivy Evatt (6-1, 6-2) joined up with Samantha Maddin and Katie Manroe (6-1, 6-3) in the doubles.

The Lady Mustangs (21-3) will face either Walton or Johns Creek in the semifinals, in a match that must be completed by next Wednesday.


Harrison 3, Newton 0:
Andrew Deltac scored the two first-half goals in the first-round Class AAAAAA state playoff game, while Grayson Guertin scored another.

Guertin was assitsed by Jake Alexander, who also assisted one of Deltac’s goals.

The Hoyas saw impressive defense from Nathan Kaminski and Kyle Phegler at the center back positions, leaving goalie Zach DeFrank to only record one save.

Harrison (12-5-2) will host East Coweta on Tuesday.


Harrison 10, Lovejoy 0:
The Lady Hoyas scored their first goal in the first 13 seconds, and then proceeded to score another nine before the first-round Class AAAAAA state playoff game was halted by the mercy rule just 14 minutes in.

Treva Aycock opened the scoring and went on to finish with five goals and an assist. Carly Rich added two, while Lizzy Sieracki and Savannah Vanderbeck also scored. Melissa Cameron and Maddie Good added assists from defensive positions.

Harrison (18-0) will host either Tift County or Newnan in the second round Wednesday.

Lassiter 2, Duluth 0: The Lady Trojans scored two goals in the first 15 minutes and used strong defensive performances from Bailey Peacock and Emily Macuga to hold on for a first-round Class AAAAAA state playoff victory.

Kelcy Hahn scored the first goal by herself 10 minutes into the game, and then was assisted by Megan Richardson 4 minutes later.

Shannon DeSantis only had to make one save in the net for Lassiter (13-4-1), which will travel to Grayson in the second round.

Allatoona 3, Cambridge 0: Willough Davis scored two goals, one to open the scoring in the fifth minute and another with 9 seconds remaining in the first-round Class AAAAA state playoff game.

Both goals were assisted by Ash Das, who scored a goal of her own right before the first half ended via an assist from Caroline Golec.

Emily Jones recorded six saves for Allatoona (15-2-2), which will host Lakeside-DeKalb in the second round.

Hillgrove 7, Luella 0: Nathalie Montano opened the scoring off an assist from Rachel Palazzo, while Sydney A. Clark scored three goals with two assists from Morgan Epps and one from AnnaMarie Arino.

Montano then scored another, this time unassisted, before Sydney Nelson and Clark added second half goals. Kaitlyn Beck added an assist.

Abby Whiteside and Carlee Dykes combined for the shutout in the goal.

Hillgrove (10-6-1) will play at East Coweta in the second round of the playoffs.

Marietta 2, Druid Hills 0: Kennedy Foles scored the only two goals of the contest as the Lady Blue Devils upset No. 1 seed Druid Hills.

Ashton Adams assisted the first goal in the 10th minute, while Foles dribbled her way to the other scoring strike early in the second half.

Defender Riley Nelson was dominant, while Grace Weiner recorded the shutout in the net.

Marietta (9-8) will play at Douglas County in the second round.

Walton 1, Collins Hill 0: The Region 5AAAAAA champion Lady Raiders received a steep test from the Region 7AAAAAA No. 4 seed, but they still managed to come out on top.

Leigh Purinton scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Olivia Eck with 31:58 left on the clock in the first half.

Defenders Helen Dyer, Erin Ratchick, Lucy Sanders and Sara Hardin preserved the shutout, along with defensive midfielder Erica Langhorne and goalkeeper Peyton Ryan, who stopped six shots.

Walton (14-3-1) will host Region 8AAAAAA runner-up Brookwood — the state’s third-ranked team — in the second round.


Kennesaw Mountain 16, North Cobb 6:
Dennis Bell led with six goals and three assists, extending his goal total for the season to 76.

Ryan Clarke followed with four goals and two assists, while Scott Schultz had a hat trick and an assist. Kyle Wooten scored twice.

Josh Ehrick recorded 13 saves in the net, playing the entire game for Kennesaw Mountain (13-4), which will host Harrison tonight.

Late Monday

Walton 8, Pope 3:
Ryan Jones celebrated senior night with three goals and an assist, as the Raiders beat their east Cobb rival.

Michael Gernatt, another senior, had two goals and two assists, while Jack Whittaker, Nick Sposito and Cameron Wiley each scored once. Josh Peretz had two assists.

Josh Wells scored twice for Pope, while Tyler Borko accounted for the final goal.

Jake Hornberger made 12 saves for Walton (12-5), which will travel to Area 2AAAAAA rival Woodstock in tonight’s regular-season finale.


Harrison 13, Sprayberry 7:
Harrison led 5-2 at the half and prevailed in a high-scoring second to win its last game before the state playoffs.

Katie Define led the way with five goals and two assists, while Taylor Sutton and Ann Marie Todaro each scored two goals and assisted one. Madison Williams added two goals of her own.

Lilly Chriszt had nine saves for Harrison (14-4), which will host Etowah on Wednesday in the first round of the state playoffs.
