Kennesaw Mountain swept its first-round series of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs Wednesday with a pair of four-inning wins against Rockdale County, 13-1 and 14-0.

The Lady Mustangs (24-6) jumped out on top early in both contests, scoring seven runs in the second inning in Game 1 and seven runs in the first inning of the nightcap.

Rockdale County gave up a combined 13 walks in the two games.

Kathryn Woody (20-5) pitched both games, allowing the one earned run on four hits while striking out 11. She also had a single, two walks and an RBI in Game 1.

Lexi Bates went 3-for-5 with four RBIs in the series as the Lady Mustangs totaled 18 hits.

Brennan Phillips had an RBI and scored twice, Brin Baum scored and Abby Chandler batted 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Malea Bell was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the nightcap. Madi Lewis batted 3-for-3 with four RBIs and hit a fourth-inning home run, while Becky Granneman was 1-for-1 with an RBI and scored twice.

Top-seeded Kennesaw Mountain advanced to host the winner of another series between Tift County and Westlake.

Hillgrove 8-13, Newton 0-0: The Lady Hawks earned a six inning run-rule win in Game 1, then came back with a five-inning run-rule victory in the nightcap of their first-round Class AAAAAA state playoff series.

Taylor DeCelles struck out two and threw the first perfect game of her career, while Michelle Forrester batted 1-for-2 with two RBIs in Game 2.

Hillgrove (27-6) combined for 21 hits and no errors. Kathryn Jackson had five RBIs and a double in the series, while Abby Akins batted 4-for-5 with five RBIs. She hit a two-run home run in Game 2.

Rachel Jarvis and Maddie Garner both went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap as Hillgrove scored 10 runs over the final three innings.

Abby Evans gave up two hits and struck out nine in earning the Game 1 victory.

Hillgrove, a No. 2 seed, will have to hit the road for its next series, traveling to Lowndes.

Harrison 4-3, Luella 0-0: Emily Kachel pitched a no-hitter in Game 2 of the doubleheader sweep, and the Lady Hoyas advanced to the second round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.

Kachel was dominant on the road, as she struck out 17, and only a walk kept her from throwing a perfect game in Game 2.

Third-seeded Harrison (24-7) will travel to play East Coweta next week, with a spot at the state finals in Columbus at stake.

Abby Broome gave Kachel all the help she needed in the third inning with an RBI double, but the Lady Hoyas brought two more runs across in the fourth when Kellie Carroll and Mikenzie Vaughn successfully executed back-to-back suicide squeeze bunts.

Broome finished the second game 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Rachel Farris added a pair of hits.

Bridgette Rainey allowed only one hit in Game 1, but she worked around seven walks while striking out 10.

A Farris single and another successful suicide squeeze by Vaughn produced two runs in the third inning, and Harrison added two more in the seventh on a fielder’s choice and an error.

Farris was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Rainey was 2-for-3 and Carroll finished 2-for-3.

Brooke Etheridge stole a combined five bases in the two games.

Pope 5-0, South Paulding 0-3: The Lady Greyhounds split the first two games of their first-round Class AAAAA series in Douglasville.

Kelly Barnhill gave up one hit and struck out 13 in earning the Game 1 victory. Sydney Segers doubled in the fourth for Pope’s lone hit in the nightcap.

Pope (25-9) also had three errors in the loss.

Ellie Viland batted 2-for-4 with a first-inning home run in the opener. Segers was 2-for-3, and Lindsey Monkiewicz was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Lauren Palace and Megan Metzinger each went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Game 1.

Game 3 is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight.

North Cobb 3-3, Alcovy 2-11: The Lady Warriors won Game 1, but they had to settle for a doubleheader split in the opening round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.

Game 3 is 5 p.m. today at Alcovy. If the game is rained out, the teams will play Friday at 2 p.m.

Jordan Lewis’ two-run double in the sixth inning scored Casey Page and Hanna Ross to lift North Cobb to the Game 1 victory.

Olivia Mould pitched a complete-game four-hitter to earn the win.

Lewis was 2-for-3, Page and Erica Clifford each went 1-for-3, and Kayla Trumbull added a hit and a sacrifice.

Game 2 was closer than the score indicated. The Lady Warriors only trailed 2-1 through four innings, but Alcovy broke the game open with three runs in the fifth and six in the sixth to win 11-3.

Page was 2-for-3, Lewis had a hit and an RBI, and Tori Douglas returned to the lineup for the first time in a month and added a hit.
