Prep Roundup: Harrison wins opener in overtime

Clay Crump won his coaching debut for Harrison on Tuesday, with the Hoyas giving him a 78-75 win in overtime at Woodstock.

Crump is in his first season at Harrison after leading Eagle’s Landing to the Class AAAA state championship last winter.

With Harrison (1-0) up two in the final seconds of regulation, Woodstock (0-1) forced a turnover and got the tying points on a layup.

In overtime, Woodstock was the one that went ahead, by five, before the Hoyas’ Nick Hughes capped a rally with a go-ahead basket.

Jack Forest led Harrison with 27 points, including eight 3-pointers. Justice Morgan added 20 points and seven assists, while Hughes scored 14.

Harrison will continue non-region play when it hosts Kell on Saturday.

Shiloh Hills Christian 49, Bible Baptist 43: Momentum ebbed and flowed before the Challengers were able to pull away for the season-opening win.

Down one after the first quarter, Shiloh Hills (1-0) went up eight at halftime before clinging onto a two-point edge after the third quarter.

Jon Allen’s double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds led the Challengers. Austin Greenway had 10 points, while Trey Bleck had 10 points, five rebounds and five steals.

Shiloh Hills will host Grace Baptist on Friday.


Harrison 49, Woodstock 46:
Avery Jordan’s 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Lady Hoyas the hard-fought season-opening win.

Harrison (1-0) held an eight-point halftime lead, but Woodstock (0-1) battled back with a 12-5 showing in the third quarter.

Kaylyn Brooks had 21 points four assists to lead Harrison. Sydne Wiggins added 19 points and nine rebounds.

Harrison will host Kell on Saturday.

Shiloh Hills Christian 42, Bible Baptist 27: The Lady Challengers dominated the first half and cruised to a season-opening victory.

Shiloh Hills (1-0) led 29-5 at halftime, largely on a defensive pressure that forced 17 steals for the game.

Hannah Manross had 20 points and eight rebounds, while Samantha Henderson added 17 points and six steals.

Shiloh Hills will host Grace Baptist on Friday.


Walton sweeps at Marist:
As the Raider boys won 176-108, the girls added a 197-139 victory.

Tyler Yuen helped pace Walton by winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 3.64 seconds. Jake Williams won the 100 freestyle in 49.39 seconds.

For the girls, Kira de Bruyn won the 200 freestyle (1:57.44), while a pair of freshmen also stood out. Gabbie Gauntt won the 50 freestyle (25.90), and Emma Cole won the 200 IM (2:13.22).

Walton will join the remainder of the county’s teams for the Cobb Relays on Friday and Saturday at Mountain View Aquatic Center.
