Allatoona placed seven wrestlers to finish second overall, while Pope crowned two champions and placed six wrestlers to finish third in the Class AAAAA traditional championships Saturday at Loganville.

Allatoona scored 123.5 points to edge three-time defending champion Pope (122.5) in the team standings. It’s the Buccaneers’ best finish in a state wrestling tournament.

Cambridge took home its first title after crowning three individual champions and scoring 132 points.

Pope’s Jake Henson concluded his career with a third-straight state title after beat Allatoona’s Will Kemp 5-1 at 160 pounds. Henson was a state runner-up as a freshman, making Saturday his fourth straight finals appearance.

Henson’s Pope teammate, Jake Adcock, was also a winner, beating Cambridge’s Will Britain by pin in 4 minutes, 26 seconds. It was Adcock’s second state title after he won one as a freshman at Carrollton in 2012.

Pope’s other state-placers were Josh Tazzetta (third, 113), T.J. Collins (second, 145), Davis Burson (sixth, 152) and Seth Gorman (fifth, 285).

Allatoona’s state-placers included Harrison Kemp (sixth, 106), Cody Anderson (fifth, 120), Ethan Benedict (fourth, 132), Jack Woods (third, 138), Jacob Robinson (second, 152) and Cody Webb (third, 182).

Kell placed 22nd behind Calvin Irby’s third-place finish at 160, while Sprayberry tied for 24th on Darius Burton’s fourth place showing at 195.

Walker and North Cobb Christian each had placers in the Class A tournament at Commerce.

Walker’s William Schubert (145) and Cameron Milton (152) finished fourth and sixth, respectively. North Cobb Christian freshman Mark Watson was sixth at 126, becoming the Eagle program’s first state-placer in its three-year history.
