Two Austell men are behind bars after police say they fled during a traffic stop that turned up methamphetamine.

Police say they found a bag and scale containing suspected meth and more than 20 small bags in a car during a traffic stop.

Police say Dustin Thompson fled by driving recklessly on Interstate 75, swerving in and out of traffic and causing other vehicles to maneuver around him. Thompson also unlawfully entered a one-way street and jumped over a curb in front of oncoming traffic, according to an arrest warrant.

Police say he exited the vehicle while it was in drive, causing the vehicle to roll backward down a hill and crash into a patrol car. An officer’s foot was run over during the incident, according to the warrant.

Thompson is charged with felony intent to distribute meth, felony aggravated assault of an officer, misdemeanor reckless conduct and misdemeanor obstruction.

Carrie Thompson is also charged with felony intent to distribute meth and misdemeanor obstruction in the incident.
