According to police, the man entered the store at 2014 Powers Ferry Road, between Windy Hill Road and Windy Ridge Parkway, at 4:23 p.m. Wednesday and went to the pharmacy counter. There he demanded specific prescription drugs and cash and displayed a handgun that was tucked into his waistband.
The man fled with some drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash in a gold or tan sport-utility vehicle. He was described as a black man between 40 and 50 years old, about 6 feet tall and heavyset. He was wearing black plastic-rimmed eyeglasses, a black jacket and a skull cap. In addition to the surgical mask, he was wearing latex gloves and walked with the aid of a black “crook style” cane.
In a separate armed robbery the same day, a man armed with a handgun entered the Krystal restaurant at 2929 Canton Road, north of Piedmont, just before midnight.
Police said the manager of the restaurant heard the front door open about 11:56 p.m. Wednesday while she and other employees were cleaning the front counter. A man armed with a handgun demanded money from the safe, then fled the business with cash. No other description was available.
Cobb Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said armed robberies tend to occur more often as the holidays approach.
