An Austell woman remains in the Cobb County Jail after she reportedly went into the local police department carrying a half-empty can of beer and a pistol.

Catherine E. McFarland, 58, was arrested Friday on charges of discharging a weapon near a street, discharging a weapon under the influence, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and carrying a weapon into an unauthorized location.

She remains in jail on a $10,000 bond.

According to the warrant, McFarland is accused of firing a pistol several times in her front yard in the 2500 block of Davis Circle in Austell just before 4:30 p.m. Friday “in an attempt to get the police to come to her location.”

Afterwards, she reportedly went into the lobby of the Austell Police Department roughly a mile away from her home carrying the gun in one hand and a nearly empty beer can in the other.

“(McFarland) began cursing and yelling at staff members of the police department, while at the front window in the lobby,” the warrant states. “(She) did appear to be intoxicated.”

McFarland admitted to firing the shots in her front yard and was arrested on site.

Less than 10 days before Friday’s arrest, McFarland was released from the county jail on time served for charges related to first-degree forgery and criminal trespassing, according to records. She was arrested Jan. 23.

Calls and emails to the Austell Police Department for a comment were not returned Tuesday.
