ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) _ Police have identified the 2 women who were shot at a Maryland church, one of them fatally.

The Howard County Police Department says 59-year-old Brenda Brewington of Ellicott City was pronounced dead Thursday evening at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn says 62-year-old Marguerite Mary Kohn of Halethorpe remains in critical condition at a hospital in Baltimore.

Llewellyn says police are still working to confirm the identity of the suspect, a man found dead in the nearby woods of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police say they found a gun near the man’s body.

A church custodian reported to police at about 5:20 p.m. Thursday that he found the two female victims inside a church office.

Ellicott City is about 14 miles west of Baltimore.
