CUMBERLAND – Cobb Police have identified a man killed in a crash on Interstate 285 on Thursday as Raul Madonado-Lopez, 29, of Norcross. Madonado-Lopez was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the crash, which occurred at the beginning of Thursday’s afternoon rush hour just west of the Chattahoochee River bridge.
Cobb Police are still investigating the crash, which occurred when a tractor-trailer, a Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck and a Lexus car collided in the eastbound lanes of I-285 around 4:20 p.m. Thursday. The pick-up truck Madonado-Lopez was riding in rolled over multiple times, Cobb Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said. The driver of that truck, Enio Tejada, 50, of Lawrenceville, was taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses gave conflicting accounts as to which of the three drivers made an improper lane change, police said. The Lexus was driven by Mark Shorthouse, 37, of Atlanta, and the tractor-trailer was driven by Jamie Poole, 39, of Lula, police said. Neither were hurt in the crash.
On Sunday, Cobb Police investigators closed the portion of I-285 so they could reconstruct the crash, and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with any information is asked to call Cobb County police at 770-499-3987
