The Interstate 75/285 interchange is one of the worst highway traffic bottlenecks in the United States. It is dangerous and is one of the main reasons for I-75 and I-285 congestion during Cobb’s morning and evening commutes.
The interchange was designed and built long before laws were changed and thru trucks were prohibited inside the perimeter. Most I-75 truck traffic used to flow straight through the interchange. Since the passage of the law, virtually all truck traffic heading south must now turn onto 285 and all northbound trucks must now turn from 285 onto 75N. The original design did not contemplate the current traffic patterns. The interchange has become severely overloaded and needs complete redevelopment.
The proponents of the TSPLOST claim its purpose is to reduce congestion and shorten travel times. Yet, there is no mention of this interchange on the project list and no monies have been allocated to its redevelopment. This omission is embarrassing.
Without question, the I-75/285 interchange is the most critical point of congestion in all of Cobb County. Let’s hope for defeat of the TSPLOST this year. Perhaps if it returns two years from now the project list will place importance on practical needs rather than political interests.
With this project included, it will be much easier to attract voters.

All that interstate traffic going around the city instead of clogging it up. What a horrible idea that was.
One project listed is to rework the Windy Hill exit which is the first exit north of 75/285. If you relieve the congestion at that exit and ease the merging traffic to that exit you will relieve the bottleneck at the interchange.
That will help but it wont solve the problem because you will be stuck in the traffic at the next exit ... But it is a start ...
There's only one way to relieve the congestion at 75/285... Rework all the exits north of 285 up to or even past glade road, Widen 75 and 575 and rework all the exits on 575. You will then have to widen all the secondary roads in the area so the traffic doesn't back up on the ramps. Once that happens you will have backup on the interstate. Just off the top of my head the would require the demolition and rebuilding of at least 40 bridges, I cant even begin to say how much right of way will have to be purchased in probably one of the highest commercial real estate markets north of Atlanta. Dont forget about the law suits from people who dont want to sell ....
That is a realistic solution to the issues at ONE interchange. You just ate up 50% of the 8 Billion in T-Splost money. Oh wait ... I forgot we dont want the T-Splost... Never mind,
Geez ... Where the hell do you people think all this money will come from ????
Excellent! Now I see why these geniuses are in charge!!
BTW, I just removed the "Vote Yes" decal from my car!
I-285 at I-75 isn't even the worst bottleneck in Metro Atlanta, mush less the State of Georgia and cetainly not the US. Did you even think to check GDOT's web site before saying this?
Interstate interchanges are design to deal with truck traffic in any and all directions. This specific interchange is one of a few that has a directonal ramp from I-285 southbound to I-285 east bound that trucks can take without crawling. So what was you point to the trucks comment?
it is embarrassing that you would tie the Managed Lanes project on I-75 to the TIA list when a short check would have told you that the managed lanes project was funded and heading toward construction.
And just like some of the Cobb elected state legislators, you think that the TIA list can be revoted on again in two years. NOT. Check the law! It will be a mimimum of 4 years to get back through a process and then wait for a state wide primary. Same applies at the end of the TIA. it would take about four years to bring another one back if approved by the voters.
And you are a advisor to a Commissioner? Get your facts straight!
Vote NO and then Plan B will fix this when we vote in two years.
How is life in the intellectually vacuous halls of CDOT, anyway?
VOTE NO on TSPLOST.
