MARIETTA — Marietta Police are looking for a suspect accused of an armed robbery at a local motel and are asking for the public’s help in locating him.

According to a release from Officer David Baldwin with Marietta Police, a suspect walked up to the registration counter at the Motel 6 at 2360 Delk Road around 10 p.m. Thursday. He then told the female clerk that he had a gun in his right jacket pocket and demanded the money from the register.

“The clerk complied with the suspect’s demands and then fled into an office area and out a back exit,” Baldwin said. “The suspect chased the clerk but she was able to escape unharmed.”

The suspect, described as a black male, approximately 6-feet tall, weighing between 170 and 180 pounds, with “low cut hair” and wearing rimmed prescription glasses, was last seen in the parking lot of the hotel on foot walking toward Delk Road.

Detectives were able to use surveillance video footage of the suspect robbing the motel to get a description and although the suspect did not show a firearm during the crime, he should be considered “potentially armed and dangerous.”

“We don’t know for sure if he had a gun but because he committed the act, we want to make sure that everyone stays safe,” he said. “We want people to be cautious, call us and we’ll handle taking him into custody.”

Additionally, Baldwin said he wasn’t sure how much money the suspect took and that he didn’t recall local police ever responding to a robbery at the motel before.

A representative from the local motel said the clerk involved in the robbery has returned to work.
