Police say Broadus stole the copper from a vacant property off Old Highway 41 in Acworth, which was owned by Atlas Disposal to keep scrap metal.
Broadus was an employee of Atlas Disposal at the time of the theft.
He then took the copper to a home on Oak Drive in Acworth and, according to the arrest report, “asked his son-in-law, Josh Lackey, and his mother, Samantha Fricks, to take the copper to Taylors Junkyard and scrap it for him.”
The report stated that Josh Lackey and Fricks, took the copper to the junk yard and received $463 for the scrap metal.
Police said both Lackey and Fricks denied knowing the copper was stolen and told police they took the copper as payment for a loan Broadus owed them.
During an interview with police Monday, Broadus said he acted alone.
Broadus was given a $3,500 bond, but remains in custody at the Acworth jail.
