Robert J. Kienel, Sr., 89, of Acworth, died Friday, February 21, 2014.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of Collins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery.  Bob was born in Philadelphia, PA, but had lived in Acworth for most of his life.  He was a 1942 graduate of Acworth High School.  He served his country in the US Navy during WW II and following the war, graduated from Notre Dame College, class of 1949. Mr. Kienel was plant manager of Unique Knitting Co. in Acworth until it closed in 1982.  He served in various civic and government organizations during his lifetime including the Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club, Acworth Little League, Acworth Housing Authority, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Kennesaw.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lewis Kienel and is survived by his sons, Robert J. Kienel, Jr. of Chattanooga, TN and Richard L. Kienel, Sr. of Marietta; daughter, Mary Ann Zito of Baltimore, MD; grandsons, Richard L. Kienel, Jr. of Gainesville and Jeffrey A. Foster of Marietta.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Georgia Chapter / Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/georgia.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.collinsfuneralhome.org.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home 4947 North Main St. Acworth, GA 30101 770-974-3133.
