Marietta police say that 45-year-old Craig Morrissey of Roswell was killed in a high-speed wreck on Whitlock Avenue at Winn Street at 1:42 a.m. today.

Police say Morrissey was speeding down Whitlock in a 2001 Jeep Cherokee when he lost control of the vehicle and veered off to the right.

Investigators say Morrissey’s Jeep went airborne, rolled over and hit a tree, instantly killing him as he was heading east toward the Square. Michael Gardner, spokesman for Marietta P.D., said there were no other cars involved in the crash.

“There was not any alcohol found on the scene, but we’re investigating whether that was a factor or not,” Gardner said. “We know that speed was definitely a factor.”

Morrissey was the only one in the car at the time.
