Mr. John O. Hawkins, age 92, of Marietta, GA went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 18, 2013. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Wednesday, February 20th in the Chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home with Rev. Marshal Rhinehart and Rev. Johnny Foster officiating. Interment will be at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hawkins was a resident of Cobb County for 72 years. He was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church for 66 years and was a deacon. Mr. Hawkins worked for 30 years as a painter for General Motors. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 79th Infantry Division – Medical Detachment and received 2 Silver Stars. He was born again in a foxhole in WWII. Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by the love of his life of 54 years, Mamie McCurley Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins is survived by a nephew, Tom Roberts of Snellville; nieces Betty Williams of Snellville, Brenda Oxford of Marietta; sister-in-laws, Dee Park and Martha McCurley, both of Marietta and additional nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews. Flowers are appreciated or you may make donations in Mr. Hawkins memory/name to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 19th from 5 – 8 PM at Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta (770) 424-4924.
