COBB — A group opposed to the July TSPLOST referendum is organizing a protest drive for July 21. Organizers plan to converge on Interstate 285 at 10 a.m. that day and drive counterclockwise for two loops all the way around the perimeter, which should take about two hours.

They’re calling it the Lights4Liberty Drive.

Information on the www.traffictruth.net website urges participants to drive the speed limit in the center lane with flashers on. For more information, visit traffic truth.net or call (770) 401-8157.

If I recall, a gay rights group did this a few years back, drove abreast at 55 and snarled all the traffic and the Police came in to break it up

I'm sure all Atlanta area police departments are licking their chops. Driving with your hazards on can get you a ticket for 'unsafe operation' because you can't signal your turns. Cha-ching.

Anyway, I am against the TSPLOST, but this seems like a bad idea (especially if it rains). Why make 285 less safe by having flashing lights everywhere? Plus the last thing I want to do on a Saturday is get on 285. Protest at the capitol building or organize a road clean up program instead.

Let's see them try and drive the speed limit during Rush Hour! Not at 10am after it has cleared out. What a joke. The TIA tax is not perfect, god knows the project list could be much better with less transit that will not go where the people who work actually live or work, but something needs to be done. We need funding for congestion improvement.

I find it ironic that they chose to do it AFTER the congestion has cleared out of the way. They are simply proving the point of why the tax is needed.

They would need four hours to complete their protest drive if it started at 8 am or 4 pm and had to pass through the interchanges at I-20 or GA400...just two of the locations programmed for improvement with the SPLOST!

And they could'nt accomplish such a metro-wide protest using mass transit - because ours is so inadequate!!

@ Allen Brock

So you are of the school of thought that proposes that we do something just for the sake of doing something, even if it the wrong thing to do?

Brilliant!!!

Keep in mind that this TSPLOST is not a transportation solution!!

It is a taxpayer funded slush fund to create income for the special interest groups and their cronies that formulated the largely ineffective project list.

I'm not telling you how to vote but at least be aware of what you are voting for before you cast your ballot.

By the way I agree that the I-285 stunt is a really, really dumb idea!!

Dumb idea! But, this is a dumb tax too. If I really believed that it would provide relief, I would consider taxing myself - However, after reading the list of items - i realized it will NOT provide any traffic relief!
