DEAR EDITOR:

The Marietta City Council must not care for The Marietta Museum of History. Why? There are no signs or advertisement anywhere downtown about the museum. I have asked people on Marietta Square, have you visited the history museum in the old Kennesaw House? They never heard of it.

For revenue and location you have to advertise. Now the $35 million for Franklin Road the city is supposed to get. Give the history museum a million. The history museum is about Cobb County and Georgia, that is if anyone can find its location.

The Marietta Museum is the most inclusive museum in our area. It contains relics from the American Revolution (and before counting Indian relics) on down to the recent war in Mid-East countries. Fascinating stories for everybody of every age group exist in the collections. The museum needs to expand to another building because so many relics are in storage due to the lack of space. Yet, the mayor, city manager, and council refuse to believe it brings any value to the city. Maybe the county needs to provide a place large enough for Dan Cox to put out more of what has been donated to him. It really is a Smithsonian-style museum and every citizen of Cobb County needs to visit. The staff works hard and need a couple more employees to take care of the inventory. It needs to be advertised and the city fathers need to VISIT it and see what they've got!

I don't work for the museum but have worked for two museums in the county. This beats them all.

I totally agree! Considering the (wasted) money our city throws our local White Elephant Scarlett On The Square, aka S.O.S., why won't our City Council support a REAL museum?

I agree completely with this letter. It is a disgrace to think that the Council is willing to spend millions on trying to rehab Gangland but we (the taxpayers) ignore the History Museum. A lot of citizens, because they knew and trusted Dan Cox, have given loads of their own family's heirlooms because they believed they would be taken care of, always. The Museum has to beg for a crust of bread (OUR Money) in order to exist, while the City is planning on going into the real estate business.
