MARIETTA — Starting in November, families who receive food stamps through the state could see a change in the timing of their monthly benefit. The state department of human services announced Tuesday that food stamp benefits will now be distributed based on the last two digits of the client ID.

The amounts of the benefits will not change, the agency said. Also, benefits will still be distributed between the 5th and the 14th day of each month.

Client IDs can be found on all notices sent by the state agency.

A client ID can be used to create an online account at www.compass.ga.gov, a website where food-stamp recipients can check benefits, report changes and renew benefits.

In the Cobb-Douglas-Cherokee region, there are 123,036 food-stamp recipients, an agency spokeswoman said.

For more information, contact the Cobb County Division of Family & Children Services at 325 Fairground St. SE in Marietta or by calling 770-528-5000.

Please, how could anyone argue against mandatory drug testing for food stamps. That's just common sense.

Not only should they perform a drug test, but should also negate services to smokers, and over weight individuals. i knew a mother with 2 children who was receiving 700 dollars in food, her husband was an alcoholic, drunk from dawn, till the roaches came out. she claimed the husband was not in the picture. the government sure knows how to investigate these cases-- sarcasm--- it seems to me that people who receive foods stamps are obese. the other percent, sell the food stamps, for drug money!!!! i think that, no candy, sodas, or junk food should be able to be purchased, or baby formula, this is what WIC is for.

There are always people who abuse the system. That doesn't mean Everybody does.

There are people who are physically or mentally handicapped, due to birth, accident which was no fault of theirs, or age.

Should my 80 year old grandma who is in severe pain every day and in the beginning stages of dementia be forced to ask you if you "want fries with that?"

And before you try to pigeonhole me, let me state I have fortunately never had to rely on govt assistance, and work hard 40 hrs/wk to pay my bills. There have been many nights I've had a bowl of cereal or mac and cheese for dinner, but I don't think anybody owes me a thing.

please the amount of people kicked off the government dole because of drugs would certainly off set the cost of lab fees.

BTW - people think they are due cell phones, long nails, tv, cable, makeup..... all the must haves. If their money was spent on the real items, food, housing and saving anyone could get off the government dole with hard work. ANYONE, we just make it too easy to say on it!

If you have no disabilities, and you are not only able to work but can also FIND a place that will hire you AND pay you enough to live on, congratulations. Don't assume everyone is as fortunate, and don't automatically judge someone because they need government assistance.

And those of you pulling for mandatory drug testing, I hope you are aware that the laboratory fees for this would cause an increase in taxes.

They did not mention that to receive the food stamps they will have to provide a urine or blood sample and will become ineligible for all aid if they test positive for any illegal drugs
