Marietta Square Farmers Market


WHAT: Sixty-plus vendors selling each weekend home grown vegetables, cheese, bread, eggs, fresh flowers, local honey, baked goods, meat, mushrooms and milk. This Saturday’s feature is homegrown vegetables and garden plants from Red Earth Organic Farms. This Sunday’s feature is homemade pot pies from Paul’s Pot Pies.

4th Annual North Cobb Rotary Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival

WHAT: Presented by Superior Plumbing, more than 30 pro and backyard BBQ teams will fill Cauble Park to compete for more $12,500 in cash and prizes. There will also be a free concert on May 10 at 8 p.m. with Sons of Sailors, a Jimmy Buffett cover band.

WHEN: May 10, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and May 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Cauble Park, Downtown Acworth

COST: Free admission to the festival, free parking and free shuttles. $50 reserved tables that seat six for the concert.

Paddle with a Ranger – Palisades Wildflowers & Ferns

WHAT: Participants can bring their own canoe or kayak and join Ranger Jerry Hightower and the Georgia Botanical Society for a leisurely float on the Chattahoochee River. Participants can discover spring wildflowers and ferns as they float a three-mile section of the Chattahoochee River from Powers Island to Paces Mill at U.S. 41.

National Train Day at the Southern Museum

WHAT: The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History will celebrate National Train Day on Saturday, May 11, with special programs and an admission deal. At 11 a.m. on May 11, Dr. Richard Banz, executive director of the Southern Museum, will give a presentation about the Great Locomotive Chase and the first Medals of Honor. The Museum is home to one of the first Medals ever bestowed, given to a participant in the Civil War’s Great Locomotive Chase.

COST: The museum will offer a flat admission of $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 4-12. Visitors must mention National Train Day to receive the discount; no additional discounts apply.
