MARIETTA — A storm front moved into the city Monday, dropping nearly a half-inch of rain between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Alex Gibbs, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, said skies this week will clear up, then cloud up.

“(Today) should be fine. Wednesday should be clear. Thursday looks pretty good,” he said. “Our next chance of precipitation should be Saturday and Sunday.”

The showers are typical at this time of year, Gibbs said.

“We usually have a second peak in severe weather in November and December,” he said, referring to October’s high wind gusts that took down a tree near Kennestone Hospital. “It’s not atypical. We are getting close to our wet season.”

Gibbs said the service was not aware of any flooding from the rain.

“You may see some local street flooding,” he said. “We are seeing some lighting strikes at the front line of the storm throughout the metro area.”

However, neither Cobb EMC nor Marietta Power and Water reported power outages.

The rest of the workweek will see temperatures in the 50s by day and 30s by night, and with skies varying from clear to partly cloudy, Gibbs said.

Saturday should see highs in the 60s, despite the rain threat, and lows in the 40s, he said.
