The Marietta Daily Journal - Estimated street value of pot bust 30 million

N.E. COBB — The Marietta/Cobb/Smyrna narcotics unit seized 6,800 pounds of suspected marijuana — with an estimated street value of $30 million — from a rental house on Alberta Drive on Sunday. Two men were arrested at the scene, which is off Holly Springs Road near Post Oak Tritt Road, in northeast Cobb.

“This is probably one of the largest seizures ever made in Cobb County,” Sheriff Neil Warren said in a statement.

Jesus Alfredo Sarabia, 38, remains in Cobb Jail without bond on felony drug-trafficking charges. There is also an immigration hold on his release. Jail records indicate he was born in Mexico.

Oswaldo Ojeda Ramos, 28, is also held without bond on the same charge. He was born in California, according to jail records.

The Marietta/Cobb/Smyrna (MCS) Narcotics Unit, which was formed in 1980, is a multijurisdictional task force with members from the Cobb Sheriff’s Office and police from the county and the cities of Marietta, Smyrna, Acworth, Kennesaw and Powder Springs. Investigators from the Cobb District Attorney and Solicitor General’s Office are also part of the task force.

Col. Milton Beck of the sheriff’s office said the drugs had a street value of about $30 million.

Do the counties , cities and jurisdictions KEEP the millions confiscated?

This article doesn't report if a large amount of cash was seized, or how much, as is typical in these huge cartel busts!

Isn't there a real incentive to foster the drug trade?

Yes, the only thing the Mexican immigrants want to do is come here and grow marijuana and have a bunch of babies. Note my sarcasm. This is an unfortunate situation that just happens to involve Hispanics; this should not discredit the millions of immigrants (Mexican and otherwise) who come here to find work so they can support their impoverished families back home.
