The owner of a restaurant in southwest Cherokee is under arrest for illegal gambling charges stemming from a two-month investigation.

Cherokee Sheriff's Office detectives, members of the agency's VIPER Unit and Cherokee County Marshals executed a search warrant on Friday at the Buffalo House restaurant at 6889 Highway 92 near the Bells Ferry Road intersection.

The restaurant's owner, Chang Chun Wu, 51, was arrested and charged with commercial gambling and keeping a gambling place. Employee Connie Westbrook, 52, of Acworth was charged with commercial gambling.

Both were being held on Friday at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center. Additional arrests are possible, according to the sheriff's office.

A two-month investigation into illegal gambling led to the execution of the search warrant on Friday afternoon.

Seized at the location were numerous gaming machines and an undisclosed amount of cash.

During the investigation, undercover officers went to the restaurant and were paid in cash for credits they earned on the gaming machines.

Through the investigation, detectives heard reports of alleged payouts at the restaurant as high as $20,000.

The sheriff's office Criminal Investigation Division also has received information on other establishments in the county that are allegedly participating in similar gaming activity.

"The Cherokee Sheriff's Office will continue to pursue suspects who are involved illegal gambling in Cherokee County," Public Information Officer Lt. Jay Baker said.
