MARIETTA - When deputies and investigators with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office attempted to serve an arrest warrant at a home off Guilford Circle in Marietta early Monday morning, they were greeted by a man who fired shots at officers.
According to a release from the local sheriff's office, Michael Lightsey fired a rifle "several" times at officers when they were trying to arrest him on a felony terroristic threats warrant around 1:30 a.m. Monday.
Deputies returned fired and the county's Tactical Operations Unit (TAC) were called to the scene to try and arrest Lightsey.
"The negotiator was able to establish contact with Lightsey via cell phone," the release states. "As a result of their conversation, Lightsey agreed to exit the residence through the front door and was taken into custody without incident (by 4:30 a.m.). A subsequent security sweep on the residence revealed Lightsey was alone in the home during the entire incident."
Lightsey is being held at the Cobb County Jail without bond on the original warrant for terroristic threats, as well as a second warrant for felony terroristic threats and four counts of felony aggravated assault stemming from the incidents occurring at his residence during the arrest.

I have known this man for 10 years and was contacted by an Associate because they felt I should not find out about this in another way.
This is a man that I have tremendous respect for and if you knew him you would say the same.
I will pray for him and his family on a daily basis.
Those of you that turn this into something that it is not should be ashamed and I will pray for you as well. Because you never know what kind of situation you will find yourself in...

This is a terrible situation and at the heart of it is a beautiful little girl who he loved above all else. Friends, neighbors and co-workers who cannot imagine what his wife, daughter and he is going through. The fact someone was able to be pushed to a point where they have this kind of reaction is sad, it is sadder when it is a good, normal person.
Right now people should be praying for a member of their community, and a family who just lost a father. If he had intended to harm someone other than himself he would not have fired randomly. This is not some serial killer or drug dealer. Just a truly distraught person who broke. This is sad, devastating and impossible to imagine,. if you had known him you would feel the same.
Seriously? It doesn't seem like anyone is "defending his actions", everyone knows his actions were indeed erroneous.
You have to realize though, that this man apparently had a fully functional life just 2 days before. He had a job that he went to everyday, he had a wife, kid, house, loans...a relate-able, normal guy. You have to understand that he is "obviously unstable" only now, after this and that a certain string of events pushed him to this outcome.
I argue that it indeed DOES matter that he was in a "bad place", because we ALL (let's be honest) are capable of doing this, the vast majority of us (fortunately) are never/will never be put into a situation where this could be a possible outcome. I just hope he finds the help he needs.
Let me get to the point, I say people who are quick to judge without full information (that's what a judge and jury are for) and who have no empathetic capacity (as you have shown) are closer to being the "real" problem.
