All Cobb County Schools will close two hours early today because of the weather. All after school and evening activities are canceled, according to Doug Goodwin, a Cobb spokesman.

All after school activities at Marietta City Schools are canceled today. The Marietta Sixth Grade Academy and Marietta Center for Advanced Academics will close today at 12:30 p.m, all other schools will close at normal time, said Thomas Algarin, a spokesman for the district.

The Kennesaw State University campus will close at 1 p.m. this afternoon, according to Tammy DeMell, spokeswoman for KSU.

Mount Paran Christian School announced on Twitter that it will close at 12:45 p.m.

Southern Polytechnic State University announced on Twitter that it will close at noon.

School never should have been opened today. There was ample evidence that we would have bad weather this afternoon and the short-sighted decision to keep schools open to the last minute was dumb to put it mildly. So what if we have to add a day onto the year, it's better than putting everyone at significant risk. Many kids can't get home, parents are in a panic to get to them in bad weather and the bus riders can't get home due to road conditions. Leave it to the teachers to have to step in to make up for bad decisions by Glover St. once again. Yet another sad all-to-common scenario for our school system.

My sister is a teacher at a middle school and she is still at her school waiting for all of the students to be picked up by school buses or parents. School was to be out by 2:15 but the roads were already bad by the time buses were dropping off high school & elementary that it delayed middle school by an hour and a half. Cobb county should have closed school altogether today because they are putting students & teachers at risk by having them out on the icy roads.

And here we are an hour and a half after the original two hour dismissal and the kids are still here as are we the teachers. Again, CCSD has done too little too late. Just like the flooding back in 08, we are now placed in a position of peril due to the powers that be and their delayed decisions and lax attitude in the face of a major storm.

At this point I can't leave the school, I have no idea when I will be able to, my own high schooler is stranded without a ride and it could have all been avoided if instead of a two hour early release, we did a release when the bad weather started!

With no busses showing up to the school, this isn't going to happen.
