An Austell man died after suffering some type of medical distress prior to running off the roadway near the East-West Connector and Fontaine Road in Smyrna after 11 a.m. Wednesday.
According to a release from Cobb Police, Nelson Villavicencio, 67, was driving his white 2001 Hyundai Elantra westbound on the East-West Connector and after passing through the Fontaine Road intersection, he drove off the road and into the grass shoulder.
The car eventually came to stop after hitting trees on the northern edge of the grass shoulder.
Villavicencio was taken by ambulance to WellStar South Cobb Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators suspect that Villavicencio may have experienced some type of medical distress prior to the collision. The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy.
