Hop on your broom, grab your witchy woman, your boogieman or your best ghoul friend and head to the Earl Smith Strand Theatre to see “Strandemonium,” a live song-and-dance musical revue featuring numbers that highlight the most spook-tacular night of the year.

The up-tempo monster of a musical features classics such as “Monster Mash,” “Purple People Eater” and “Love Potion No. Nine” along with current favorites such as “Dead Man’s Party,” “Zombie Prom” and “Bring on the Freaks.”

“The Strand will become Strandsylvania complete with spider webs on the staircase, boiling cauldrons and flickering candles,” said Earl Reece, Strand’s executive director. “In fact, we hope to make the facility look like a haunted theater from 1935 — the date the Strand officially opened.”

Reece, a Cobb native, retired as director of the Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts at Pebblebrook High School in south Cobb before taking his job at the Strand. Besides serving on numerous boards and committees in Cobb County, he was selected as the MDJ’s Cobb Citizen of the Year in 2001.

“Strandemonium” benefits the Strand’s education program. Reece said that hopefully the event will help fund future Strand produced live performances.

A cast of 14 singers and dancers will perform, many returning from previous Strand shows. Guests are encouraged to wear their best Halloween costumes.

The evening promises to be a ghostly good time with unexpected surprises. This show is not recommended for those who are faint of heart, void of humor, or weak of soul — musical soul that is.

“The best way to describe the show is when chaos meets rock and roll. There is no doubt that people will want to dance in the aisles,” Reece said.
