KENNESAW – A decision on the proposed feasibility plan for the football and Title IX women’s sports programs at Kennesaw State University has been deferred.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has indicated that Kennesaw University’s request will be taken under further study. Kennesaw State University officials look forward to continuing to work with the Board of Regents.

I'm convinced the Owls will add football. I'm no expert on Title lX, but I believe the edition of women's lacrosse helped in the number of athletes, but nowhere close if they add football.

Mercer and Jacksonville have about 100 athletes on their football team, so KSU would need to add quite a few athletes.

A great option would be women's equestrian. KSU already has an equestrian club in place. UGA has an equestrian team with about 100 athletes. It makes sense!

If they are going to justify spending millions on football, there is no reason they couldn't support an equestrian team.

Maybe the KSU Board should read the article in the December Readers Digest entitled "I'm breaking up with football" written by a sports broadcaster and commentator. He tells about all of the ex-football players who develop severe problems from the concussions they suffered while playing the game. He tells about four of his friends who committed suicide at a young age as a result of those problems. Maybe the KSU Board would then decide to concentrae on educating the young adults who attend school there rather than to contribute to their later suffering in life, for money. Maybe they should give some thought to the primary purpose for their existance.

Should football be approved, make sure you understand the history which Dooley brings to other sports. He eliminated a number of sports so that football could stay with the title 9 guidelines.

Add men's soccer and women's sand volleyball and be done with it. Can 6 home games a year attended by 3,000 students justify spending millions of dollars? You can't even fill the lower level of the Convocation Center for basketball games.

Focus on the classroom. That's what college is all about.

I live in Wisconsin and have no pony in this race or any understanding what Kennesaw State's financial situation is, but I really don't understand the logic behind not adding football because of a lack of support for basketball. Believe it or not, some people love football and don't give a crap about basketball; and I would imagine that's the case with most people in Georgia.

There's also the fact that unless you're a Duke or Kentucky, baseketball teams don't beget nearly as many alumni donations as football teams, which is why Georgia State, Charlotte and Old Dominion all started football.

Good move.
