Pam Younker has joined Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to fill the newly created community relations development position for Cobb County. She will serve in the government and community affairs department.

Younker was formerly vice president of corporate services at Engineering Design Technologies Inc. in Marietta. She has served on the Air Force Chief of Staff's National Civic Leaders Council and chaired the Cobb Chamber of Commerce's Honorary Commanders Program, among other community activities.

The Georgia Ballet has named Alexandre Proia artistic director effective April 1. Proia succeeds Gina Hyatt-Mazon, who left the Ballet in 2012 to return to Hamburg, Germany, as School Director for the Hamburg Ballet.

Proia, who currently resides in New York City, is an internationally renowned choreographer and instructor. Born in France, Proia graduated from The Paris Opera Ballet School. He has danced professionally with the Boston Ballet and the New York City Ballet. He has choreographed and taught for many companies and schools, including The New York City Ballet, Paris Opera, Teatro Colon, School Of American Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, The Alvin Ailey School, Joffrey School and Juilliard.

In addition to his role as artistic director, Proia will also assume interim responsibility for The Georgia Ballet School and its more than 350 students.

Veronica Martin, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, has been named chief nursing officer for WellStar Cobb Hospital. She will be responsible for leading the nursing division, establishing strategic direction for patient care services and implementing contemporary models of care.

Martin previously served as associate chief nursing officer for Tampa General Hospital, a 1,018-bed magnet hospital. She has bachelors and master's degrees in nursing from the University of South Alabama and is working on her doctorate degree at Florida State University.

The Cobb Library Foundation Board is pleased to announce Linda Hoynes as the new executive director. Since 2007, Hoynes has positively impacted education by providing K-12 public education foundations training and assistance in developing successful strategies and programs to raise non-tax revenue to support nonprofits. Hoynes has been a nonprofit consultant to foundation, in Georgia and nationwide.

As the former Executive Director of the Cobb Schools Foundation, Hoynes has worked with Cobb EMC, Georgia Power, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Bank of North Georgia WellStar Health System, Dell Computer, Cisco Systems, Lockheed Martin and AT&T.

Raised in Overland Park, Kan., Hoynes is a graduate of Kansas State University. She lives in Kennesaw with her husband and their two sons.

State Bank and Trust Company named Kelly Maxwell as senior vice president of Commercial Banking for the Cobb market based in Marietta.

"Kelly brings more than 20 years experience as a commercial banker and we are pleased to have her join our Marietta team," said Cobb Market President Jeff Higginbotham. "She has successfully managed a broad portfolio of clients and developed solid relationships with hundreds of businesses in metro Atlanta."

Her banking career began with Trust Company Bank and includes credit and commercial positions with Wachovia, First National Bancorp and Bank of North Georgia. Maxwell will be based in State Bank's Marietta office at 250 Church St.

Prudential Georgia Realty, which has two offices in Cobb County, recently announced the promotion of Lori Lane to the position of senior vice president. She will also continue as managing broker of the New Homes Services division of the company.

Douglas Hennen of Acworth has joined ConEdison Solutions energy services company, as energy services sales executive in the southeast region. Hennen has 14 years of experience in energy services contracting with Trane and Johnson Controls.

A decorated former Naval officer, he holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Youngstown State University in Ohio and a master's of science equivalent in nuclear engineering from the Navy Nuclear Power School in South Carolina.

Smyrna-native Nathan Mize has formed Mize & Mize, a Smyrna-based real estate advisory and consulting business specializing in multifamily, senior housing and commercial real estate development and finance.

Mize is a former associate of international real estate accounting and advisory firm CohnReznick. He was previously a director of multifamily finance programs for the Georgia Housing and Finance Authority.

Professor releases new study

Sridhar Ramamoorti, associate professor of accountancy in the Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University, has completed a 15-month study called "CAE Strategic Relationships: Building Rapport with the Executive Suite."

The study focused on relations between chief audit executives, chief financial officers and chief executive officers through on-site interviews with executives at 13 leading organizations in the U.S. and Europe, such as Humana, Nordstrom, Wells Fargo, BHP Billiton and AkzoNobel. The study was funded by The Institute of Internal Auditors Research Foundation.

Better Homes awards top sales associates

Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers celebrated the rebounding of the housing market and honored their top sales associates in 2012 at their recent awards celebration. As evidence of the upturn of the market in 2012, 26 members of the Cobb County offices received awards for their stellar performance.

The overall top sales associates for the Cobb offices were Jamie Hook, Vicky Diffley, Pam Butler and Shawn Griffin. Hook was awarded Top Assisted Sales Associates for the East Cobb office. Diffley was named Top Individual Sales Associate for the East Cobb office and Butler won the same award for the West Cobb office. Griffin was named Top Property Management Sales Associate Companywide.

Also, Butler and Griffin received the Emerald Elite Award; Hook received the Gold Award; and Diffley, Marbelle Arria, Diane Suway and Kimani Kirangu achieved the Silver Award. Honored with the Bronze Award were Allyce Arnold, Estela Corvalan, George Esper, Michelle Foster, Anne Gilmartin, Kelli Godfrey, Waine Gray, Ginger Hoitink, Agate Lip, Stacey Lula, Lisbeth Macias, Patsy Pardue and Larry Walker, all of the East Cobb office; and Beverly Davis, Waverly Harding, Anita Lopez, Mark Slaugher,Tiffany Taylor and Tammy Teague, all of the West Cobb office.

Traton Homes agents recognized by Atlanta Board

Cobb County-based Traton Homes recently celebrated a successful 2012 with three New Homes Representatives receiving recognition at the Atlanta Board of Realtor's 2012 Multi-Million Dollar Sales Club Banquet. The banquet, which was held on March 8 at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead, celebrated members of the Multi-Million Dollar Sales Club and their accomplishments throughout 2012.

In order to receive membership, individuals must reach a total gross production of at least three million dollars in real estate transactions.

Mike Riley received a Phoenix Award, which are given to agents who have qualified for membership in the Multi-Million Dollar Sales Club for 10 consecutive years. In 2012, Riley was the New Homes Representative for Leisure Ridge, which just sold out, and is currently the New Homes Representative for Traton's brand new community, Ridgeview Falls in Dunwoody.

Ed Olwine and Kerri Briant were named among the top five percent in new home sales, with over $9.1 million and over $9.9 million respectively.

Olwine finished an award-winning 2012 by being named the 10th top agent in new home sales in Atlanta. Earlier in the year, Olwine was named the Salesperson of the Year by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association. This is his fifth consecutive year of being recognized as a top five percent agent.
