MARIETTA — According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, July Fourth is the second-deadliest day of the year for drunk driving deaths. According the U.S. Department of Transportation, 40 percent of all fatal alcohol-related traffic accidents involved teens who were driving under the influence. With the high teen drunk driving rate and danger of the roads on the fourth of July, the Cobb Alcohol Taskforce recommends taking the following steps to keep alcohol out of the hands of youth this July Fourth:
- Know your child’s friends’ parents
- Talk with other parents/adults to make sure that alcohol is not available at the events youth will attend
- Talk with your child Set a good example for responsible adult alcohol use, if you choose to drink
- Refuse to supply alcohol to underage youth in your home or on your property
- Make food and non-alcoholic rinks available at celebrations and limit excessive drinking
