Claims that Islam ‘peaceful’ are ludicrous

How ironic it is that in the same Friday issue of the MDJ, two letters appear from Muslims extolling the peaceful virtues of Islam and the purity of Muhammad. I refer to “Good, bad in all religions, not just Islam,” and “Freedom of speech should be limited,” and the article titled, “Threats drive Egyptian Christians from Town.”

Letter writers Mahmooda Rehman and Allison Knight-Khan may indeed be peace-loving Muslims; however, they are either naive or sadly mistaken about their religion.

This Roman Catholic Christian has studied the Quran as well as the life and teachings of Muhammad. I came to the conclusion that Islam is not a religion of peace and Muhammad was not the pure and holy prophet they proclaim him to be. As a matter of fact, Muhammad was caught up in sexual gratification and the age or marital status of his conquests were of little concern. Muhammad may have been a prophet; however he was also hedonistic.

If Islam is a peaceful and tolerant religion, why is it that in Egypt, Coptic Christians are being threatened by Islamics for the simple reason they are Christian? If Islam is a peaceful and tolerant religion, why did Islamics behead one of their own because he had converted to Christianity and refused to renounce his new religion?

Mahmooda and Allison, I am sure you are devout followers of your religion, just as I am a devout follower of a truly peaceful religion known as Christianity. Christians do not persecute or murder non-Christians for refusing to embrace their religion.

I will close by pointing out that Islamics have committed 171 terrorist attacks against Christians and Jews since 1993, resulting in the deaths of thousands of innocent people (Wikipedia). Any claim that Islam is a religion of peace is ludicrous.

I'd recommend the writer take a walk through Arlington National Cemetery and note the graves of Muslims who died in service to this country to protect the freedoms he has to write such tripe.

Does believing in the teachings of Islam allow one to make a choice? Would you choose to be free or would you choose to follow the dictates of your religion. If you are a Southern Baptist, will you choose to precisely follow the teachings of your church or will you decide to be free to choose. Personally, I believe freedom trumps religion. Whatever I choice I make, I am free to make that choice and then accept any consequence for doing so.

Peaceful and tolerant Muslims?

That's like saying "Honest and forthright politicians"

My God if greater than your God. Disgusting.

More blood has been shed in the name of Christ and Mohammed then any other religious figures.

"Imagine no religion" as the song goes.

Yeah, then I could do whatever I wanted, and as long as I didn't get caught, there would be no consequences.

Anyone who claims that Islam is peaceful has never read the Qur'an. I have. The Qur'an is violent from end to end. It desecrates womanhood and preaches that the the whole world must either embrace Islam, live in servitude of die. Any Muslim who does not believe that is classified by Islamics as a non-believer and as such is subject to beheading. When is the Non-Muslim world going to understand that peace with Islam is impossible to achieve except on their terms.

While I agree with Mr. Beyea that Christianity is essentially a peaceful religion, before any of us Christians get too pious we need to remember the Crusades. They were a series of religious wars blessed by Pope Urban II and the Roman Catholic Church against Islam and, to some extent, the Jews.

This digression from peace was, of course, justified. It was to restore Christianity's rightful access to the holy lands.

The Crusades were not the only religious wars instigated by Christians in the name of God.

Never equate the religion with acations of its followers. Christianity as a faith does not support violence. Islam as a faith does support violence.

For these so-called peaceful Muslims calling for an end of freedom of speech here in the United States should be alarming to all.

First, freedom of speech will be curtailed regarding Islam and Mohammed. Next, . . . . .?
