City wants residents out

Marietta loves all its children. All deserve a chance in life — but not in Marietta.

Jesus said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me.” Marietta City School Board Member Jill C. Mutimer said (in her letter to the editor last week) that only if they can prove “achieving academic success.” The mayor has said that the displaced families will migrate to the other apartments on Franklin Road and the “razing apartment complexes is not an effort to push anyone out of Marietta.”

So where is the decrease in the student population? Is the mayor telling a lie?

Having driven down Franklin Road recently, I did not see the slum area Mrs. Mutimer mentioned in her letter. She states “the city has allowed Franklin Road to become a breeding ground for prostitution, gang activity and crime in general,” statements that are not supported by the facts. Franklin Road had a greater crime-rate decrease than Marietta as a whole in 2012, according to police statistics.

Mrs. Mutimer states the Marietta Housing Authority will help the displaced families. She should have checked with the mayor first, for he stated that neither Marietta nor the Housing Authority have any Section Eight vouchers.

If Mrs. Mutimer had the courage, she would have supported a 2-mills tax increase to improve the city schools instead of abdicating the 2 mills to purchase apartments.

I love Marietta and Marietta loves all its children. Mrs. Mutimer would rather the children leave Marietta than educate them. Shame.

Please vote “no” on the bond on Nov. 5.

Marty- why not do your homework before writing about Franklin Road. The students that want to stay in the city, will do so. The closed apartments will no longer attract a transient population- therefore, less students in the school system.

Maybe you should have checked with the Marietta Housing Authority, yourself- there number is published online. They will help ALL residents find better housing. Only a small number of franklin road residents have section 8 vouchers, because the standards on franklin road are BELOW section 8 standards!

The statistics you mention did not include data on prostitution, gang activity and drugs. Ask yourself, why not?
