Rex Douglas Chilton, 81, of Savannah, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at his residence under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was born in Adairsville, Georgia. Rex was a member of Fair Oaks United Methodist Church in Marietta, Ga. where he served on the Administrative Board, Council of Ministries, Board of Trustees and as Chairman of the Ushers. He also attended, in recent years, Elgin United Methodist Church in Elgin, AL and White Bluff Methodist Church in Savannah, GA. Rex founded King Cabinet Company in 1970 and later, Chilton Manufacturing Company. His community service includes serving as Cubmaster for Pack No. 122 and advisory staff member for Boy Scout Troop No. 196. He was an advisor for the DECA Program at Marietta High School, as well as the Diversified Education Program at Osborne and South Cobb High Schools. Rex was an advisor at-large for the Cobb County Board of Education Planning Program. In 1968, Rex was initiated into Samuel S. Lawrence Lodge No. 721 and then served as Worshipful Master in 1979. After serving the Masonic lodge in multiple roles, including District Deputy to the Grand Master, Grand Tyler of the Grand Lodge of Georgia and Grand Representative to Alberta, Canada, Rex became the Grand Master of Georgia in 1991. He was a 32º KCCH Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Atlanta. He was a member of Cherokee Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons, Marietta Council No. 47, Royal and select Masters and Douglasville Commandery No. 40, Knights of Templar, and Past Master of Georgia Lodge of Research. He is survived by his wife, Sara Bryan Chilton, Savannah, Ga; 4 sons, Rex Felton Chilton (Nancy) of Harpersville, Ala; Steven Douglas Chilton (Melody Ruth), of Rogersville, Ala; Mark Bryan Chilton, Lawrenceville, Ga; and Nick Lane Chilton (Diane) of St. Simons, Ga; 2 sisters, Betty Clackum (James), of Columbia, SC; and Charlcie Chessire, of Marietta, Ga; 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Mayes-Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta with Rev. John Haney and Rev. Ian Butler officiating. Interment will follow with Masonic Graveside Services being conducted by the Grand Lodge of Georgia in Dawson Cemetery in Marietta, Ga. The family wishes to thank Home Instead Senior Care in Savannah, Ga. and especially CAREGiver, Angie Moultrie. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to cancer research or Ronald McDonald House. Family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. 770-428-1511.
