Eva Helen Ard Bishop, 72, of Powder Springs, died on May 16, 2013 from a long fight with brain cancer. She was born in Colquitt, Georgia and raised in the nearby community of Mayhaw on Ard Road. Helen came to Atlanta after finishing Perry Business College. She worked at the Highway Department where she met her husband, John. Helen and John were married over 50 years. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marietta for over 48 years. She served in the Children’s Sunday School Department and on different committees in the Church. Helen also worked at Maple Avenue Methodist Church, in Marietta, for 14 years. Helen is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Page Herst; son, Greg Bishop; three granddaughters, Haley, Savannah, and Bridgett; sisters, Evelyn Williams, Ann Wilson, Sue Mock; brother, Ray Ard; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, May 19, at Mayes-Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church St NE, Marietta, GA 30060 (770) 428-1511, from 6:00-8:00PM. The interment will be Monday, May 20, at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park, in Marietta, at 10:00AM with a Memorial Service to follow at First Baptist Church of Marietta, at 11:00AM.
