Timothy A. McGill, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene of a multi-vehicle accident on Shaw Road south of Oak Springs Drive in Marietta just after 9 p.m.
Cobb County Police investigators say McGill, the driver of a red 1987 Honda Hurricane motorcycle, was heading southbound on Shaw Road when he crossed over the center line and ran into a gray 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by a 17-year-old girl who was northbound.
McGill’s motorcycle struck the Mitsubishi on the driver’s side front quarter panel, and he was ejected from his bike, then struck a brick mailbox on the western edge of the road.
“There is no supporting evidence to indicate what caused the wreck,” said Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb Police. “And we’ll never know because the victim is dead.”
Pierce said they also don’t know how fast McGill was going.
“There was no witness statement saying excessive speed, and there was nothing to indicate any drug or alcohol involved in this,” he said.
Police are still awaiting completion of the toxicology report.
Also damaged in the crash was a gray 2009 Toyota Camry, which was ahead of the motorcycle while they both were southbound on Shaw Road.
The driver of the Toyota was identified as 44-year-old James McGraw III of Marietta. Neither he nor his passenger, 26-year-old Adam Wcial of Kennesaw, were injured.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was 17-year-old Mariah Kemp of Marietta. She and her passenger, 17-year-old Jessica Santos of Marietta, also were not injured.
Pierce wasn’t able to provide any information about McGill or his family.
